This project involved a complete overhaul of the existingWeb Content Management System. The existing system was a desktop application and the new system I designed was a large web application.
Site management can be divided into three main parts based on key roles and tasks:
- Adding, Editing and Approving content on the site
- Designing and Creating modules that populate a site
- Maintaining the site structure / directory structure
I designed flows and screens for the key tasks in each of these modes. For the Site Editing tasks, I used a inline editing paradigm that allowed users to see the content in the context of the page and act on it. For module creation and editing, I used a canvas paradigm that allowed users to drag in elements, lay them out, add details and then style them as needed. Finally, the Site Manger showed users the site hierarchy in a tree format and allowed them to perform Site Management tasks with ease.
Final designs were well received by users in user testing. The work was completed over a three month period in 2011.
